Operant and classical but with love π

I operate a small dog-training business in Prineville. I provide private and group training and occasionally provide Board & Train, where a client’s dog stays with me temporarily while receiving training. I do not operate a traditional boarding kennel or daycare.

These simple, paws-itive habits will help your pup shine with amazing manners! π
**1. Paws-itively Perfect Greetings!** πΎ
Say goodbye to enthusiastic (but sometimes painful!) jumps! π Only give attention, pets, or greetings when all four of your dog’s paws are firmly on the ground. πΎβ¬οΈ This teaches them that calm sitting earns rewards, making jumping a thing of the past! So smart! π§ π
**2. Smart Snacking & Training Treats!** ππ₯
Human food can be a fantastic training tool! 𦴠But remember, it’s best reserved for those special ‘good job!’ moments. π Never feed your pup from the table while you’re eating β this prevents begging and keeps their focus on you during training! π«π½οΈ They’ll learn what’s truly rewarding! π
**3. The Magical ‘Place’ Command!** β¨ποΈ
Imagine a peaceful entry when guests arrive! πͺ Teach your dog to go to a designated spot like a comfy bed or cozy mat when the doorbell rings. π This keeps them relaxed, out of the way, and turns chaotic hellos into calm, controlled welcomes! A true game-changer! π
**4. Zen Greetings for Guests!** π§ββοΈπ
When visitors come over, ask them to *initially* ignore your eager dog. π€« Once your pup has settled down and isn’t bouncing off the walls, then β and only then β can the cuddles and attention begin! π₯° This teaches your furry friend that being calm is the fastest way to earn social interaction and love! β€οΈ
**5. Playtime Power-Up: ‘Drop It’!** πΎπ¦΄
Make playtime even better (and safer!) by mastering the ‘Drop It’ command. π This ensures your dog understands that *you* control the game, preventing any resource guarding tendencies. π«π‘οΈ It’s a fantastic way to keep fetch fun and friendly for everyone! π₯³ Go team!
**6. No-Begging Zone: Dinner Peace!** π«π
Establish a strict rule: absolutely no feeding your dog from the dining table. π ββοΈ If there’s never a “win” from begging, the habit will eventually disappear like magic! β¨ Enjoy your meals without those puppy-dog eyes staring you down. ππ½οΈ
**7. Gentle Mouths Only!** βπ
Teach your pup that teeth belong on toys, not on skin or clothing! ππΆ If they get too mouthy during play, immediately stop interaction. This helps them learn gentle bite inhibition and makes playtime safer and more enjoyable for human hands! ποΈπ
**8. Respecting Their Retreat!** π‘π΄
Every dog needs a safe, quiet space! π€« If your dog is resting in their crate, bed, or a cozy corner, please leave them alone. π ββοΈ Teach everyone in the home, especially children, to respect this ‘quiet zone’ to prevent stress and build trust. It’s their personal sanctuary! π
Hope these tips help create a happier, more harmonious home for you and your amazing dog! ππβπ¦Ί
